These special Meinl Hi Hats were developed to the taste of Anika Nilles. Their massive 18" size and aerated top cymbal makes them far different from a traditional pair of hi hats. Anika loves to use them half-open to use as a timekeeper, with a sound deep but crispier than a crash/ride.
They're kinda trashy, somewhat soft and dark, with a low pitch.
