The GTX-1 Soft models have very large, thickly felted heads that create a big, warm, and round sound on the timpani. They're effective for lush single notes and smooth rolls (particularly on larger drums).
The German felt covering the wooden cores of these mallets has been applied parachute-style, leaving no stitching on the edge. This design gives the mallets the same sound quality all the way around the head, and players don't have to constantly check themselves.
Straight maple handles put a lot of weight up at the front end of the mallets, helping boost volume and projection.
