S-Hoops are similar to standard triple-flanged hoops, but at the top it flanges inward, hanging about 1/2" over the bearing edge of the shell.
This design modification adds structural strength to the hoop so it can crank down like it was die-cast. The wide striking surface feels nicer to play on than a standard triple-flanged rim, makes rim knocks louder, and is friendlier on your sticks when you play rim shots.
This hoop fits 14" snare drums, built with snare gates to make room for the snare wires that pass through them.
