Tama's third volume in the premium Star Reserve snare drum lineup is a beautiful specimen. The shell is 7 plies thick: six of bubinga and walnut inside for enhanced low tones and depth, and an exterior Claro Walnut ply lacquered in gorgeous black see-through gloss.
This 5.5mm thick drum cuts like a knife on the initial attack, thanks to an internal maple sound focus ring. The resulting decay is short and sweet, with a thick woody tone. Star bearing edges, tube lugs, and special sound arc hoops all contribute to the resonance.
A high-end drum like this deserves high-end hardware. It comes equipped with a Liner-Drive Strainer and Butt Plate, 20-Strand Super Sensitive Hi-Carbon Snare Wires, and USA Remo heads.
