Tapspace Gretchen at the Spinning Wheel by Schubert arr. Brian Blume

Gretchen at the Spinning Wheel by Franz Schubert has been arranged for marimba and vibraphone duet by Brian Blume. A famous example of German Lied from the Romantic period, this programmatic work uses a marimba to represent the spinning wheel and a vibraphone as the treadle.

As a piece of Lied, this music is approachable and appealing to a wide audience. Originally written for piano and soprano voice, the vocal part has been split between the marimba and vibraphone to help keep things musically even!

The marimba part is much more active than the vibraphone part, allowing players of two different skill levels to play together.
