Tapspace Joaquin on Sunshine by Jim Casella

Joaquin on Sunshine is firstly a perfectly punned title, and second a fun and large percussion ensemble piece by Jim Casella. This work for 15-17 players has a fun Afro-Cuban flare and is densely scored with Latin rhythm section instruments for an authentic sound.

Where we are used to typically hearing the 'strong' beats is rarely where the melodic and rhythmic emphasis occurs in this composition. This creates a great syncopated sound which requires great counting and ensemble listening on the part of every performer.
