Tapspace Crosswalk by David Reeves

Crosswalk by David Reeves is a great percussion octet that uses instrumentation found in most average high school band halls. This piece is not intentionally programmatic, but it does create a feeling of walking (as the title suggests) by creating a constant forward motion that always seems to be leading to the next phrase.

Each performer uses some sort of pitched instrument and four non-pitched surfaces which creates a nice, diverse sound and interesting overall texture. This is a great ensemble for any high school or college level group looking for another piece to program on an upcoming concert.

Instrumentation:

  • 4.3 Octave Marimbas (2), Vibraphones (2), Xylophone
