Tapspace Detour by Brian Blume

Detour takes the distractions of the little side streets of life and puts the idea into a percussion ensemble for 13 players. Between easy and medium, the majority of the piece is written in a rhythmic 5/4 at a moderate tempo with a few solos in the middle for toms and snare drum.

At three minutes flat this work can fit into nearly any concert setting, and it will challenge early intermediate players to play together. It stops, starts, and drives, just like a real detour.

This piece includes the full, bound score and a data CD containing individual parts (for printing) and an mp3 recording.

From the composer: While a detour is often an annoyance or a hindrance, occasionally a detour can add some excitement to an otherwise mundane travel experience. Maybe it is a detour through a new and exciting landscape, or perhaps a detour takes you on a treacherous and thrilling journey. Sometimes life forces us to take detours from our planned routes, making it a truly unpredictable and wild ride. - Brian Blume
