Continuum by Ian Briskey puts four percussionists through some musical hoops by subjecting them to extreme dynamics, rudiments that need good stick control, ensemble cleanliness, and the ability to blend lots of drums.
Requiring a relatively small amount of gear, this short piece can be used as very effective tool to teach students how to work together without a conductor, how to get out of their own zone, and how to demonstrate some real skill! Continuum would be a short, sweet highlight for any high school or early college percussion concert/recital.
