Tapspace The REM Cycle by Dustin Schulze

The REM Cycle by Dustin Schulze is a percussion ensemble all about the part of sleep where vivid, sometimes lucid dreaming occurs - REM, or Rapid Eye Movement.

This piece features plenty of minimalist tendencies (overlapping patterns) mixed with pop-like jams and melodies floating over the top. The piano part is central to the work and is featured throughout.

At the climax of the piece, Dustin brings in six bass drums and some cymbals to kick the energy up several extra notches. The bass drums can be of any size and style, as long as they are mounted horizontally and make a low boom.
