Two Preludes for Mallet Sextet contains two gorgeous orchestrations of two famous piano works - Frederic Chopin's Prelude No. 4 in E Minor (Op. 28, No.4) and Claude Debussy's The Girl with the Flaxen Hair.
Chad Heiny has transformed these two pieces into keyboard percussion sextets. The Chopin is bitterly melancholic with intense tempo fluctuation, while the Debussy is warm and simple in its impressionist lyricism. Effects like bowed crotales and chime tremolos enhance these works greatly.
This collection was designed to be performed in one sitting, but each piece can be performed separately on a concert and garner the same appreciation. The have very similar instrumentation.
