The 1st place winner of Portland Percussion Group's 2016 call for scores, Of Light by Mason Lee depicts the colors of the rainbow through four percussionists on two 5.0 octave marimbas.
Each player goes through repetitive patterns and phrases, overlapping and interweaving with the three other players to create a kind-of-minimalist framework with a dash or two of groove.
Some of the licks are technically tricky, but the real challenge lies in remembering where you are and making sure the entire group plays cleanly together.
