Tapspace Windows of the Maloca by Jim Casella

Windows of the Maloca

by Jim Casella was written after a trip to the Amazon jungle in Peru. This rhythmic and energetic work for percussion ensemble reflects on the composer's experiences and symbolize the windows he saw on his trip that were illuminated by moonlight.

The piece represents how multiple individuals can work together in a single, cohesive environment and be bigger than themselves. Rhythmic and melodic ideas are passed between unpitched percussion and drums and the marimbas and keyboard instruments to give the piece motion.
