Close Your Eyes and Dream by John Herndon is a work for percussion ensemble based on his original lullaby that he wrote to help his young children drift off to sleep.
An optional vocal part features his original lyrics and makes this work sound like a classic children's lullaby. If a vocalist is not available however, the lyrics can be omitted and performed as a standard percussion ensemble.
In order to accommodate ensembles of different sizes the two percussion parts are optional, and for larger ensembles the keyboard parts can be doubled.
This is a beautiful work that is great for middle school ensembles just dipping their toes into chamber music.
