Le Marche Diabolique by Michael LaMattina is a challenging percussion trio with an insistent, driving atmosphere. This piece relies heavily on rhythmic interplay between parts, rapid and chaotic changes in dynamics, rhythmic offset, and the xylophone melody to create and maintain this atmosphere throughout.
The snare drum part has both rudimental and orchestral elements, with open and close rolls and rudiments throughout. The piece overall uses instruments that are standard in most rehearsal halls, making it accessible to many programs!
