Canon Fodder by Chad Heiny is a reflection on the political and social climate of 2019. This piece uses homogenous instrumentation between 4 players, each with toms and woodblocks, to create a sound that is consistent and unified, until the piece passes two players off to a shared glockenspiel and other metallic instruments.
This piece has a persistent clock ticking motive that symbolizes the forward march of time, as well as a texture built from a rhythmic canon, hence the title of the piece.
