Jesse Monkman's Fantasy for Vibraphone steers well clear of the instrument's jazz beginnings, and instead resembles a film score written for just one instrument. It moves very quickly, involving some very quick licks and scales that traverse quite a bit of territory on the vibraphone.
This piece can be broken into several sections - a boisterous and frantic beginning, an ethereal and relaxed middle, and a recapitulation. It's very tonal and audience-friendly, while mysterious because of the minor theme. It could serve talented high school and young college players well on a recital.
