Alex Stopa's South Kolora is a beautiful solo marimba chorale that captures the essence of a poem about the circle of life by his great grandfather. It is full of mellow warmth and kindness, and would certainly be a great way for marimbists to develop their chorale technique.
This piece is intended to be played on a 5-octave instrument for the extra depth of sound that can be reached, but music is included for a 4.3-octave version if one is not available. It is included on the Texas UIL Prescribed Music List.
