Tapspace Song for Monica by Rod Kosterman

Rod Kosterman's Song for Monica is a lamentation and reflection on the suicide of a friend and a first love. This vibraphone solo goes through a range of moods, from sweetly sad, to fond remembrance, all underpinned with echoes of loss.

The opening section is jazzy with lots of freedom to ponder the slight dissonances that appear, and the middle section is very reminiscent of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata. It closes much like it opens, but with a thicker orchestration and more rhythmic activity.

This solo could be very effective if you would like a moment of reflection during any percussion recital.
