Tapspace Phylogenesis by Russell Wharton

Phylogenesis by Russell Wharton is unlike almost any other snare drum solo you've heard, involving two drums (one muted), a rasping stick, and audio accompaniment that comes in a third of the way through.

You'll have to master the unique technique of rubbing the rasping stick along the rim of one drum while playing different rhythms on the other drum. After the accompaniment kicks in, more standard rudimental and concert chops will be needed.

Program this piece on your recital and you'll have a snare solo with far more interesting colors and effects than a traditional solo.

Phylogenesis ships as a professionally spiral-bound folio with a CD containing the accompaniment track in WAV format.
